Additional Anchor Points

As Snug As A Bug is also an accredited fitting station that carries the Tier 1 Qualification.

Defined as:
TIER 1 Fitting stations that offer a ‘Full Fitting Service’ being the simple installation and set up of child restraints and fitting of anchor bolts/fittings to the factory OEM child restraint anchorage points in the vehicle in addition to offering a modification service, having the ability to modify your vehicle and introduce restraint systems and anchorage points where there originally was not one fitted from the vehicle manufacturer.

Therefore, we are not only experienced in fitting and installing child restraints we are also experienced at fitting child restraint anchor points in vehicles.

We comply seats, seat belts and anchorages to the Australian Design Rules (ADR).

We fabricate the infrastructure required, whether it is brackets or mounts to facilitate the additional child anchorage point.

NOTE

Nonstandard fitments may require certification by a Vehicle Safety Compliance Certification Scheme (VSCCS) Engineer.

Location of Anchorage Points

Depending on when a car was manufactured will depend on whether it has and anchor fitting point. It is important to note that in the rear of a station wagon the luggage points are not confused for anchor points.

Where to find child restraint anchorage points in cars

Anchorage points can be found in the following locations:

  • In sedans – on the rear parcel shelf.
  • In hatchbacks – below the tailgate in the beaver panel/on the floor or in rear of rear seat.
  • In station wagons – in the roof, on the floor or in the rear of the rear seat.
  • In 4WDs – in the roof, on the floor or in the rear of the rear seat.

Which cars have anchorage points?
Anchorage points are required to be in vehicles in accordance with the AUSTALIAN DESIGN RULE 34 (ADR34)

  • Passenger Cars from 1st July 1976
  • Station Wagons and Hatch Backs from 1st January 1977
  • Vans up to 9 Adults from 1st January 1986
  • Vans up to 12 Adults from 1st January 1987
  • 4 Wheel Drives from 1st July 1990

It is important to note that not all vehicles come fitted with an anchorage point. Some vehicles will require modifications to accommodate anchor points, while in some situations it can be illegal to install an anchorage point so it is best to refer to the owner’s manual of the vehicle or contacting the manufacturer before purchasing.

Imported Vehicles
Imported vehicles require anchorage point to be established in most vehicles, prior to the vehicle being registered. Please see www.completecarcare.net.au for information on imported vehicles.

People Movers
Some vehicles do not cater for the larger families with small children and therefore the vehicle has no 3rd row anchorage points. Most vehicles can have the anchorage points established in the vehicle, we can fabricate mounts or brackets to establish a safe and secure anchorage point into your vehicle that is certified by RMS VSCCS Engineer.

Dual Cabs
Some Dual Cabs do not have anchorage points. If required, it is possible to fit Anchorage Points to most Dual Cabs.

A first for As Snug As A Bug we supply and install to a Toyota commuter bus a two bench seat with two anchor points, fitted eight anchor points to the remaining seats. Then supply and install ten maxi rider AHR easy adjust Safe-N-Sound baby seats. Had the lot engineered and with a compliance certificate with the Road & Maritime Services.
